Although, I think in general Ed is under the strong impression that he has much better things to do, like protecting everyone he has a vague fondness for and maybe saving the world if it comes up. Appearance: Edward has long blond hair which he keeps tied back in a ponytail, matching eyes and a delicate facial structure, which, combined with his modest stature and slim build make him somewhat feminine-looking. Despite being a bit small, (165cm/5'5" but he got his growth spurt really late), Ed is quite strong and well-built, having practiced intensive physical training since he was ten-years-old. His right arm and left leg are mechanical, made of bright metal, and he walks with a pronounced leg-swing due to the left leg being heavier than the right. Ed wears dark, earth-tone colors in a 1920s style with brown slacks, a collared shirt with arm-garters to adjust for his small size, a brown vest and sometimes a dark brown trench coat. Personality: Edward is quick-tempered and easily offended, particularly when it comes to commentary about his short stature. However, he is nearly always willing to give the benefit of the doubt to the people around him and seems to operate by the belief that people are basically good. Edward is a strong atheist and is adamantly against the idea of there being a God, due to how much senseless pain and cruelty he has experienced in his life. He is extremely loyal to the people he considers friends and most especially his younger brother Alphonse. He would risk his life for a friend but he would outright sacrifice it for his brother. Abilities/Weaponry: Edward is one of the most prodigious alchemists in his home country of Amestris. At only 16, he had surpassed nearly every alchemist in the country in his abilities to manipulate the molecular structure of materials and objects. He can alter the chemical properties of things as well as the shape and uses this skill to fix things that have been broken, get to things that are out of reach or to create weapons when threatened. Most commonly, Ed will 'transmute' the casing on his mechanical arm into a blade and use it as a melee weapon for close combat. Weaknesses: Edward alternates between the extremes of being too trusting or not trusting anyone but his brother. That distrust extends most often to other people's abilities; he feels that he has to do everything himself or with his brother, and has an inability to ask for help from others. He can be too cocky and get himself into trouble because of it, but for the most part he just expects too much of himself and feels the need to take responsibility for everything happening around him. He has constant, underlying guilt for a mistake he made as a child that resulted in his own injuries as well as the loss of his brother's entire body. History: Edward began learning alchemy at a young age and showed incredible talent for it, which was attributed to his lineage. After his mother's death, he made the decision to resurrect her using alchemy, and so he and his brother underwent intensive training to become more proficient before attempting the resurrection. For reasons beyond their understanding, the transmutation went afoul, and Ed ended up losing his leg, while Alphonse's entire body was lost to 'The Gate' (ether). Edward affixed his brother's soul to a suit of animated armor by giving up his right arm. After an alchemist with the military offered to help him, Ed had his missing limbs replaced with mechanical 'Automail'. Ed met the Lieutenant-Colonel who had offered him help and ended up joining the military as a civilian-contractor alchemist, so that he would have access to classified documents to aid in finding a way to restore his brother to his real body. In the following three years, he gained a reputation for being not only a great alchemist, but also a very compassionate one. In the end he had to sacrifice his own body in order to restore his brother's, but rather than disappearing, he instead was transported to a different world on the other side of 'The Gate'. He now quests through 1920s Germany, searching for a way back to his home and brother. | |||||
